i cant hear anything from my computer

uhm i need help..i cant even listen to cd's ..i have a soundcard but i dunno watz wrong

well you can start by sheading some details on the situation. We cannot read minds (yet, we have llamas looking into it).

hmm...speakers are always a good place to start make sure they are plugged in(power cord if any) and also plugged into the back of the computer into the right slot in the soundcard. They might be plugged into the microphone slot or something.

Also if you see that your cd is actually playing but no sound, check the master volume on the computer and make sure its not muted.

those are basic things...do you think it might be more complicated??? you didn't give much detail.

welpz..okay my cousin removed my soundcard. now i need the windows 98 cd to re install it. my soundcard is called soundmax integrated cd audio. uhm i dont have my windows 98 cd. my cuz took that too.. what else can i do to install it?

Yeah... getting the drivers from the company site is the best you can do for now without your cuz's help.

Why did your cuz take your soundcard and then put it back but not install it?

As long as the model is the same the version shouldn't be too important. In fact I suppose the newest stable drivers for the card would be best.

Is compaq the company that makes SoundMax cards? Just making sure - lol

Anyway, why did your cuz take the card out, uninstall the drivers, reinstall the card, and not the drivers???

he was supposedly getting me back for accidentally downloading a prog. that he didnt like for his computer.. =\. he doesnt know anythin bout the driver crap. yea..i searched on yahoo for soundmax already and i got compaq. the thing is. i download it and then what do i do?

do not touch drivers (yet). go to windows' volume control and make sure that everything isn't muted.

how do i get to windows volume? the sound thingy isnt by the timer.

go to Winamp preferences / plug-ins / output, select "Nullsoft waveOut plug-in", click configure and tell us what output devices appear on the list.

theres nothing. it used to be soundmax integrated audio ..but now its nothing. ok i downloaded the driver, installed it, but my comp. says i need the windows 98 cd to finsish the update process..blah where do i get the cd or the info??
