        hello
you should be able to remove the search provider from internet explorer (assuming that's your browser) from the drop down box, you can manage search addons. sorry when i told you to goto add remove programs, i was thinking of the winamp bar.

below is a screenshot from the installer... it tells you whats gonna be installed... sadly they are all checkmarked by default.

I'm also having a problem getting this Winamp search page out of my MSIE browser. I have Vista. I can't believe they make this so difficult to remove. I didn't want this in the first place and now I can't get it removed...

you know it sould be UNCHECKED by default if you think morally. if it would be unchecked, i think NOONE would use a commerical full search box and toolbar. (i didnt installed that shit, my mother was clicking left and right and now im trying to remove her ...."work")

so the question is still: HOW TO GET RID OF WINAMP - commerical full - TOOLBAR AND SEARCH PROVIDER!?

                  (toolbar allready removed)

I am having the exact same problem. The "Winamp Search" simply cannot be removed from IE 8 by normal means, including when I go to "Manage Search Providers." The options to delete the service are GRAYED OUT. The Winamp Search also insists on being my default search provider, even though Google says it is.

This is a pretty disappointing turn of events coming from a program that I've used for years, since this amounts to malware. Now because I accidentally clicked something, apparently I will have to wait until someone comes up with a registry fix for this one.

I was able to search the registry for the key and delete it by opening XP start menu > RUN > Regedit, then do a search using Regedit menu Edit > Find with Winamp Search as the search criteria. Even after key delete and restart, Internet Explorer 8 would not let go of the listing, or provide an option to remove (was greyed out). So I restarted into safe mode, and went to add/remove programs, and reverted back to IE7 by uninistalling windows Internet Explorer 8. I am just as happy to leave it off my system because it was a problem plagued snail. And I will not install Winamp again because it surreptitiously slipped its search bar in to a non-removeable manner that dictated user preference. I mean, what should WinAmp have to do with the search world anyways?

                        Removin Winamp search

I'm afraid I agree - an easily installed option which is not removable is malware pure and simple. However good and free the software this is not acceptable guys, Winamop tech support should please post detailed instructions on how to undo it and make it easy to find

Winamp Toolbar may be uninstalled via the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel

Note: For future installations, remember to uncheck "Winamp Search" and/or "Winamp Toolbar" (depending on your preference) on the "Get the Most out of Winamp" page of the Installer Options.

After reading these posts, don't do anything drastic like removing Winamp if you enjoy it or reinstalling Firefox before reading this.

This works for the Firefox browser, I'm not sure of how Internet Explorer handles it.

Here's how I fixed this issue.

Go to Firefox search bar and type about:config in the address bar (you can copy and paste it from here as well).
You will be given a warning, click I will be careful, I Promise button.
Now on the long top bar in the settings, type or copy and paste the word Winamp.
Automatically you will now see only Winamp related stuff on the list.
Right click on all that has 'search' or 'search engine' in the Winamp list and click reset from the menu on each one.
                            After that, just X out.
To test it,right-click a word on another open page and Google should be back. I believe this will reset any previous search engine you had besides Google.
