First off, "
whips the llama's ass". I've been using it since I needed to play WAV files (I remember the first time I used it because I was young and found the "A-word" to be quite offensive).
I'm running a newly rebuilt Windows 7 Ult (I recently "sfc /scannow"ed at the cmd prompt). I'm using Gigabye P35 board with on-board HDA (MS Windows 7 drivers). I completely reinstalled both Winamp full and pro 5.572. I use no 3rd party skins, no 3rd party plugins (Now that MilkDrop is default <3). Agent is running. No Winamp Remote installed. No languages installed, otherwise I leave the installer at defaults (aside from the obvious junk). I'm always on the internet. I'm using the latest Ralink RT2500 wireless desktop drivers. There are 3 CDRom drives listed in Winamp. 2 Are virtual from Daemon Tools. The one I'm trying to play the CD from is a lite-on DVD-RAM/Combo/Lightscribe (w/ latest windows drivers).
When I insert a CD and navigate to the corresponding drive in Winamp, the CDDB/Gracenote box pops up, tries to find the info (can't because it's a local band). The gracenote GUI then "flashes" once and Windows is frozen from then on (even my cursor). Sometimes, after about 45 seconds of being frozen, the cursor will show that Windows is "thinking" but it's not an animated "thinking" cursor, it is frozen on one frame of the animation. To fix it, I have to power off (won't shut down). It happens EVERY time.
Soooo.... I went into prefs and unchecked MusicID in the CD Playback settings. Now the MusicID/Gracenote box does not pop up and I have no issues playing CDs.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if there was a way to fix it and continue to use the MusicID feature for CDs. I couldn't find any other posts with this exact problem. ty.
