  • History is inaccessible

Since last week, I can't access the History in the media panel.

I checked the files in the "ml" folder, they are apparently intact (recent.dat and recent.idx respectively weight 883ko and 48ko) and haven't been updated since last week.

main.dat, main.idx, art.dat and art.idx haven't been updated either since exactly the same moment, for the record.

I just updated Winamp to version 5.58, but it had no effect.

What can I do to recover my history ?

I'm having the exact same problem as of yesterday...I'm also thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling it, but I want to make sure all of my bookmarks and skins are saved

If you are comfortable using a hex editor, can you look at the DAT and IDX files in the ml folder, check they contain something that looks like it's meaningful and not just a bunch of zeros.
Any files with odd looking extensions turn up in that folder ?

        @ ujay

        recent.dat is fine.
        all the others (recent.idx, main.dat, main.idx, art.dat and art.idx) are filled with 00's.

I deleted all these files and restarted Winamp so it recreates correct versions of them.
That worked, the History panel came back, but empty of course.

I tried replacing the new recent.dat with a copy of the old one, but the history is still empty, and Winamp crashes when I close it.

What to do now, is there a way to re-import data from the saved recent.dat ?

If it has any value, I attached it to my post.

alas it won't work as you need valid .dat and .idx files which work as a pair. unless you've got complete backups (say from using http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=317153) then there's no way to get the lost history data back from how i understand the db uses those files.

            Thanks mioumiou.

[additional] as daz has said, unless you also kept a copy of the corresponding IDX file you'll be out of luck.

@ phildogg82 ... did you pick up on the link in daz's post :
