I have the pmp_usb.ini file on my phone, which was placed there a while back by Winamp. Now, when I connect a new external drive I notice Winamp no longer places this file on USB devices using the pmp_usb plugin. Is this file still used? has it been superseded by another file? If it's still being used, is there any information as to the format/commands in the file?

is pmp_usb.ini still used?

it still is used from what i can tell as i've just set a clean drive to be managed as a usb device and it created a new pmp_usb.ini along with winamp_metadata.dat and winamp_metadata.idx (these last two contain the mini database used to cache things in place of the xml file which was used prior to 5.58x).
i don't think there is any documentation of the contents as it's really only meant to be accessed by the related plug-ins as i think all of the control options are changeable via the preferences -> media library -> portables -> <device_name> prefs page.

it's meant to work with external drives through usually the files are only saved out on a valid Winamp exit or i think if the save option on the portables page is used. the only thing i can think off which might prevent saving of the settings is not having the correct access rights on the root of the drive or Winamp not correctly closing.

if the pmp_usb.ini isn't being saved then that'd explain why it's not being detected on restart again i believe. i've used non-usb hard drives with it in the past so it should work (assuming nothing is broken with the version of the plug-in in 5.581). other than that there's not much else i can suggest.

from what i have seen is that pmp does not save to hard drives just mp3 players(or similar devices) (at least what ive seen lately)
if im wrong the only way it saves the pmp file to the drive is on disconnect of player by the disconnect button on the sysncing tabthanks rob

i've no idea then if that's the case as when i tried it out for this thread i used a real hard drive and manually set the usb plug-in to access so i can only go on what i've seen *shrugs*

on a permanent hard drive i can see it doing it since it will really never dismount
but i dont think it does it on removeable hard drives
flash drives on the other hand will take the file if you select yes when it asks if you want to manage it as a playerthanks rob
