  • Error in Insert: 8004a803

    Hi:
I am running 5.581 with a Sony NWZ-S545. This device only operates in MTP mode.
When synchronizing certain playlists I get this "Error in Insert" message. The music appears to be there but the playlist will not play. Albums will still play but basically I cannot author my own mixes.
Also I was wondering how the .pla files in the Walkman Playlists directory are always zero length. Should I just expect this in MTP mode?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I had a similar problem with my recently purchased Philips Aria. A hand full of tracks wouldn't sync and spit up the Error in Insert message, but when I dug into the actual music folder on the device, the files were there.

When winamp syncs the files, it renames them and creates a new folder structure, it does this using the artist and album information from the ID3 tag information. If those text feilds contain invalid OS characters (ie : or / ) or the text string is too long, it will adjust it and copy automatically. It then tries to link the original file name back to the playlist (which doesn't exist) this creates the Insert Error.

I was able to work around this in Winamp by right clicking the problematic tracks from the playlist and choosing "Edit metatdata for selection" Then examine the Album and Artist for : or / characters. Delete any offending character, update the file and resync. Worked like a charm for me. Another thing to watch for is that a folder cannot end with a "." If your artist or album ends with a "."

This does seem to be a bug, but Windows may be partially to blame :-)

      Hi dbeerman:
It turns out that MediaMonkey works better, for free, and out of the box with my NWZ-S545.
So I thank Winamp for the years of service it has given me (and I paid for!) and I bid it adieu!
Thanks for your help though- I had figured it was something related to special characters and a mismatch between "calculated" and "actual" filenames.
