that's not a fix by installing an older buggy version *shrugs*

as you've made a snide comment about Windows 7 in a different thread, i'll have to assume that's what you might be using as you've provided none of the asked for information.

the most likely reason is you've run Winamp as an administrator which if you then try to drop a file from Explorer onto Winamp will not drop the files - that is how UAC and process level protection works in Vista / Windows 7. the 5.61 installer is meant to remove running Winamp elevated after installing it which resolves that main issue. or just making sure Winamp was correctly closed and restarting it normally allows for drag and drop to work (as long as the program you're dragging from was run normally).

Win 7
Winamp 5.261

I have been running Winamp for years and years and years with no problem dragging and dropping.

I have two Win 7 Computers and my profile has administrator priviledges for both of them. The profile in which I am not able to drag and drop is the one that I used to install Winamp. I too reverted to the old version to be able to drag and drop.

What I need to know is how to fix the problem please? I would like to use the current version.

Thanks.

Hi SpeedFighter and GeoffA,

I'm using Win 7 64-bit and Winamp 5.621.

I have no problems using drap and drop from Windows Explorer.

I'm running an administrator account with UAC set to its highest level. I'm also running
Winamp in Vista SP2 compatibility mode. I do not get any UAC prompts with this mode.
I used to get a UAC prompt when starting Winamp before I set it to run in this mode.

I suggest you provide the additional info requested in the sticky. It may help to
also include your preference settings related to explorer.

As DrO said above, the only known reason for drag+drop not working is if you are running a program in Admin mode,
ie. by right-clicking it and selecting "Run as administrator", or by having "Run this program as an administrator" checkmarked under Properties > Compatibility.

I'm on Windows 10. I found that I could not get Enhancer 17 to work unless I was in compatibility mode (run as admin). But then drag and drop would not work. There's a brilliant solution that worked once I took out the compatibility mode setting. The issue was Enhancer. The solution is a wrapper that makes it work.

Win. 10 64-bit : "Win. Vista SP2" compatibility mode worked (for me): Winamp 5.58

Hi,

Answer #5 by Aminifu helped me.

Am I digging an antediluvian topic? In my case + of several people I help, I don't care, as we're STILL using Winamp — in 2017, yes ! —, version 5.58, under Windows 10 (64 + 32-bit) and XP (32-bit).

So, under Win. 10 64-bit, exiting Winamp — used with "DSP Spectrum Tool" plugin — would display some "(Memory cannot be read) Net broadcast event" error msg...

... until I followed post #5 advice and set Win. 10 to run Winamp in "compatibility mode: Windows VISTA SP (Service Pack) 2"

— and no other. Other compatibility mode options failed, except "Win. XP SP2", may be, but slowed Winamp launch + disabled drag'n'dropping files to its playlist (from explorer windows).

Thanx to Winamp Forum.
~SB
