  • Standardizing a maximum volume?

Hello. I love this player, but I'm having one annoying problem. It's not a problem with WinAmp, but I hope WinAmp can fix it.

Some of my songs come in very quietly. They were recorded that way. Others come in quite loudly - they were recorded that way.

So I find myself constantly fiddling with either my speakers' volume knob, or the Windows volume control.

Is it possible to put a limit on volume? So I don't get blasted out by the loud songs, nor have to ramp up the volume to hear the quiet ones as I go through Shuffle? I'm looking at Preferences --> Playback and it seems like those should help. But the replay gain doesn't seem to help (not that I know what it's doing in the first place).

    Thanks very much.

ok... first, don't use the limiter.

second, RG is the answer. you need to analyze and apply the values to your files tags, and then enable RG on playback in prefs.

In the RG, which one? Normalize, Apply Gain or Prevent clipping? Also, what about the dB edits? I've disabled the limiter under Equalizer.

personally, i do apply gain / prevent clipping. but you also need the values in the tags.

what do u mean, db edits?

The db area, in the Replay Gain Settings, there are two sliding bars, "Adjustment for files without Replay Gain" The top one is set at -6.0, the bottom is +0.0.

Down at the bottom, I have checked "Ask before writing..." Should that be left?

What about only Equilaizer tab. EQ Type is Winamp 4Front EQ, Frequency Bands; Winamp frequency abdsn. Any change?

          Thanks for helping me out.

if your files support tags, and you analyze them for RG, then the slider for files without RG won't matter. (enable RG columns in ML, to see what has RG values and what doesn't)

the other one is a preamp, i set mine at +2 but its basically pref. 89db is the 0 ref level.

i don't have it set to ask, just write.

i don't use the equalizer most of the time.
