  • Burning Size

Winamp is estimating the cumulative size of .mp3 files to burn to be larger that they are, consequently it is telling me to remove files, a step that I think should not be required and it stops the remaining steps toward burn. I calculated the sum of the files to be 189.77 MB which will easily fit on a Sony CD-R 700MB disk.
I burned the files with Windows Media Player and a properties display of the CD said 213 MB was used and 489 MB is available.
I want to burn with Winamp because I need the low speed that Winamp offers so the CD will play in my 1998 Volvo automobile.
My winamp is V5.66 Pro Build 3516 Dec 12 2013. My OS is Win Vista SP2 64 bit on a Dell Inspiron 530S.
Can you offer a solution to my quandary?

there really isn't much to suggest as that's just how the feature was coded years ago and is how it has generally remained. and the estimate is a best guess before doing a full decode / simulated burn to find the actual size. really there are better burning options than how Winamp has done things and might be better to look for an alternative if its not working as you like (especially as it's a problematic area for the non-aol version being worked on).

Have you tried the slow burn speed in WMP (look on the burn tab in the options)?

        Solved!
My 1998 Volvo's SC816 radio will not play .mp3 CD's. I was mistaken in using Windows media Player to burn a CD for that purpose.
Using Winamp to burn a CD from computer .mp3 files at 1X speed was successful. I learned to expect an increase in space required by a factor of 10 in converting from .mp3 to "Redbook" format - Google "What is a Red Book CD? (Producer Speak)". I got 26 selections averaging 3 min. each on a 700 MB Sony CD-R and it plays beautifully in the car!
