Path for 'Add file(s) to playlist' dialog

Hi all

I'm on Win7x64sp1, and my Winamp is a portable v5.6.6.3516. My approach is that I hit 'L' and that opens the 'Add file(s) to playlist' dialog box. I'm looking for a way of forcing that dialog box to always point at a particular location, say X:\music, from where I'll then navigate to my desired folder/file to add to Winamp.

It used to be that the last location you added a file/folder from is the one that would be remembered for next time you add but now even this isn't working. And even if it was working it still does not serve the purpose I want, which is - regardless of what and where I added lastly from I want that 'Add file(s) to playlist' dialog box to always open up at a location I specify.

I tried editing the WinampPortable.ini file in the root folder and adding different lines of code pointing to my desired location but that didn't working. The code I mention is sth I saw on the forums here, not sth I made up. I also downloaded the PathsIni_v1_0.exe and tried with that but no matter what I tried there couldn't solve the issue.

Any solutions pls?

You would need to edit the cwd= line in winamp.ini

[Winamp]
cwd=X:\Music

and then set winamp.ini to read-only

(which means no other settings changes will be saved either, so make sure winamp is fully set to taste first).

For standard installations, the settings would be in %AppData%\Winamp, but for Portable installations, there should be no paths.ini and the \Path\to\winamp,exe folder will be used (usually %ProgramFiles%\Winamp).

(cwd = current working directory)

Also note that there are separate settings files for Media Library (Plugins\gen_ml) and other plugins, but the winamp.ini -> cwd= > read-only trick should suffice....

I don't remember anything about a WinampPortable.ini file though. Anyone?

Ya indeed, thanks. That seems to have worked for now.

In my portable case it was the ...Winamp\Data\Winamp\winamp.ini file that had to be edited as you suggest.

I just wonder - making this file read-only - this means nothing else can be written to this file - thus if this file hosts Winamps settings (the user-editable ones from Winamp's UI) then that means that from Winamp's UI I can no longer make changes to those settings as the file is read-only and it will not accept being written to. Huh?

Oh sorry ... just read the rest of your post ... yes, you already answered my question. I was just sooo curious to try your suggestion that I didn't even read your post to the end.

So ya ... that's that. Is there no way to achieve what I'm asking without setting the file to read-only or in other words - preserving the ability to change other settings in Winamp.
