  • Crashing while adding media

Hi folks, title explains it all.

I downloaded Winamp from the main page and while adding media, when it reaches 10% it crashes to desktop.

    Any idea?

    Thanks in advance.

    What filetypes?

This is interesting bc the in_mp3.dll was supposed to be bulletproof now in 5.8

I had the same happen to me when I installed 5.8. What I discovered is that some mp3s had a conflict for what ever reason. I had about 10 in my library that caused 5.8 to crash.

When you start the "add media to library" pay attention to the names of the mp3s as they're being loaded. The ones that pause then Winamp crashes is the culprit and you have to remove them from that folder.

I hope u guys are saving those mp3s that cause the crash. Winamp devs need them to fix the crash bug. Can u make them available via dropbox or something like that?

Also, make copies and run them thru mp3val and mp3tag. That will likely fix them, but if not there are some other options.

Disappointed to hear 5.8 in_mp3 still has problems.

A mp3 to mp3 conversion using NCH switch software cured the issue for all but 2 mp3s. Those 2 it couldn't convert said they were corrupt. I deleted those two along with the other originals because at that point I wasn't sure if there was a hidden virus or something embedded in them.

I'm pretty sure some of those I had for years sitting in my library and they could have came from Limewire or something. But 5.666 loaded them and played them just fine.

I'm sorry, I didn't think to save them for the developers.

They should be in ur recycle bin, unless u emptied that too. (Even if so, an undelete utility could retrieve them)

It's a shame if they are lost. Chances are they just had bad tags or headers, esp if 5.666 played em. A virus is extremely unlikely.

              I forgot I posted this.

I'm trying it again since I wasn't able to download Winamp again, the download got stuck at 0kb and recently it worked again.
