  • Playback Error with FLAC File

    Hi Everyone,

I clicked on a certain *.flac file but Winamp crashes and sends the following dialog window titled "Email":

"There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

and another window for "Winamp Error Reporter" - this one crashes itself trying to send results.

The Error Reporter generates the crash files attached in this post. Please note I've renamed "_crash.dmp" as "_crash.dmp.txt" to make compatible with the upload module on this forum. I think the *.zip file is composed identically of those two, so it is redundant.

Thanks a lot for any help!

Do other apps play the file? What encoding? What bitrate?

Have u looked at it in mp3tag?

Have u tried winamp safe mode?

I've found out between the OP and now that the .flac file has a corrupt timing, but it bothers me that VLC is robust enough to play the whole file flawlessly and not Winamp. I like Winamp features, a bias perhaps stemming from being a traditional user from the late 90s.

VLC Player plays the file, using flac. The bitrate varies from 600-1200kbps, with typical value 900 kbps.

The tags I see in mp3tag are the same as those listed in Winamp. I've tried removing the tags with mp3tag and unfortunately, the same problem persists.

I don't hear anything when I play the file in Winamp safe mode, or from any other file for that matter.

      Hope this helps.

If the file is somehow corrupt, then yes it would be nice if winamp had vlc handling but the problem is still the file.

If u can't rerip the CD, assuming that's the source, try using vlc to transcode to ALAC, and try it in winamp. If it works, transcode again back to flac if u want.
