  • Small text - Disabling features/buttons

I just installed the latest version of Winamp 5.666 and see there are some problems. It is installed on a laptop with full HD screen. When I hover over a button the pop up text is extremely small. Is there a way to change that? I have not found any. There really should be an adjustment for this. If it can be controlled by changes in a skin, where would that be?

I have created a "simplified" skin based on the Modern skin. It hides all controls that we do not need so that computer illiterate users can safely program a dance program without accidentally interrupting playing dances. To that end I need to disable all single key commands except for "delete" in the play list. Also I need to disable all right clicks in various windows. Dr. O has nicely provided this for the play list, but I need it for other windows. I have laboriously intercepted right clicks and single key commands, but there is one I have apparently not and it causes problems. Virtually all editors now have facilities to change single or multiple key commands.

In addition I need to disable the buttons at the bottom of the library. Actually I would like to disable all of the bottom stuff in the library below the list of dances. I had done this for previous Winamp versions by changing the size of the frame, but the new humongous buttons defeated that. It would be nice if the Library bottom stuff could be programmed in the skin similarly to the Play list.

Modern Skin tooltips aren't affected by OS scaling iirc, and this was raised as an issue for the WACUP version of Winamp Modern.

The files you want to have are both tooltips.m (you can disable the animation if its bothersome to you) and tooltips.xml, this tells them to scale according to the main window's scaling factor
May or may not attempt to push WACUP to you, totally not, no. Why would I even?
And may or may not also have told you so...

Thanks but I don't have the WACUP version of Winamp Modern.
I have an extensively modified version based on an older Winamp Modern that I would need to modify that does not have a "tooltips.m" file.

The tooltips.m is basically needed if you want to scale them, as it works in tandem with the tooltips.xml.

Getting both the files I linked and adding the tooltips.xml to the skin.xml file will make it work, you don't need to have the WACUP version of Winamp Modern for this to work

Thanks, I figured it out and got it to work, but the contrast is much less than the previous old tooltips. Yes it is similar to the skin design, but I need to hit the users with something bold, not just pleasing, so I will have to diddle it a bit.

It was an aesthetic (and personal) choice I went with so that it fits the skin
I can quickly retrofit this to be more like the old tooltips if you want me to

Thanks for the offer. Yes, that would be very good. The modern skin has a decent Default color scheme, but many people prefer a white background with a black font, so I created a Windows Classic color scheme which most of the users like. Unfortunately, the tooltip box then has white text against a gray background which is very hard to see. The old black against white is the most visible and draws attention. Square or rounded corners are irrelevant, whatever you like.

The Default color scheme might work best when the laptop is used outdoors.

Some of the features I have added to my Winamp Folk Dancer skin might be of interest to others. I have tried to make it foolproof with various extra hints on the main menu. For example when the repeat is activated it puts an arrow showing it goes back to the beginning. It is located at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/win...more%20rows%20

The big thing it lacks is an easy setup. I suppose I could provide an initialization file after the installation. The other thing that is lacking is a way to remove features such as right click stuff that causes problems. For example I want file deletion to be forbidden. This has to be used by a variety of users from the tech savvy to the fairly incompetent boob without any glitches.

Here, I've retrofit the tool tips to work and look just like before, which'll no doubt help you in what you want to achieve

Thank you so much. That does the trick. I think our old tired eyes can now see things better.
It turns out that the laptop configured by default with 150% size increase in various screen items. This caused other problems.
