  • Is there a settings file I can save?

    I'm using Winamp v 5.666 on Windows 10

Is there a Winamp settings file somewhere in the file system that I can save? I'm thinking, if I need to install Winamp on a new computer it would be great if I could just use the same settings file and Winamp would be configured exactly as I have it now.

Note: I'm *not* referring to things like playlists or bookmarks, I'm referring to the actual settings of Winamp...all the stuff in General Preferences etc etc.

    THANKS Winamp ruleth.

The Winamp Backup Tool backups all of your skins, plugins, and settings.

But if you want only the settings to be backed up, go to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Winamp and copy the winamp.ini file to your preferred destination. When you re-install Winamp, copy the file to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Winamp.

While it is still a good tool and better than nothing, The Winamp Backup Tool hasn't been updated in several years.

There are several settings files. Winamp.ini is very important and studio.xnf saves the configurations for modern skins, if you use them. I suggest saving everything in the user data folder mentioned in reply #2 and it's sub-folders, if you want to be sure to get everything.

Many of these settings files are updated (look at their date-time stamps) when Winamp is shutdown, depending on what was done during the session.

Off topic, but I've searched and cannot find answer...I've forgotton how I registered for this forum and now cannot find any page where password (or anything) can be changed. Do you know where we find user preferences for this forum? Thanks.

Are you saying the Winamp Backup Tool misses some important files?

No. I think Aminifu means that since it hasn't been updated for "years", it might have bugs and compatibility problems. It works great on my machine 'tho. (Winamp 5.666 @ Windows 11)

Yes ChocolateAdventurouz you are correct. The tool has some minor issues with Winamp 5.666, but will do the job for the most important settings files. I can't speak to how well it does with 5.8. Also 5.666 hasn't been updated as well. 5.8 is not a true update. It is a wip that was leaked.

Sice the 2 versions have the "same" files and directories, I don't think that it will be a problem...

As a method of exporting my settings I have been coping the whole content of

                            C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Winamp

and never had any issues with this method

I use both methods to be sure I get what Winamp Backup Tool may miss.
