  • Winamp issue in Windows 10

    Hi There,

Can someone please help me with these. I am suddenly getting this error when opening winamp on my machine. I have done all the reasearch and googling but came to no solution yet... Anyone who has been able to resolve this be able to point me towards the solution.

The error is "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect". Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\winamp.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.6161" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Are you a developer who uses NSIS to distribute your application? Are you a Winamp plug-in developer who wants to use NSIS to distribute your plug-in? Have suggestions for other people like you? This is the place.

    Hello

    What is your Windows OS?
    Is it Win7?

If yes, you will need to either reinstall Winamp 5.9
or manually extract the Microsoft.VC90.CRT folder from the root of the zip to the root of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp"

    EDIT

Ok, I see the thread title has been edited to "Windows 10".

For Win10, you should delete the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Microsoft.VC90.CRT" folder, if it exists.

Also make sure there's no msvcr90.dll or msvcp90.dll file in your "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folder.
Those two files should exist only in subfolders of "C:\Windows\WinSxS"
(the 32-bit versions will be in a x86_microsoft.vc90.crt_* subfolder).

However, if msvcr90.dll and msvcp90.dll are actually missing or corrupted on your machine, then you should use the System File Checker (SFC.exe) to repair Windows.

Also note that the original solution posted for Win7 might actually work for Win10, because winamp.exe should still use C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Microsoft.VC90.CRT\msvcr90.dll if it exists - and the error message would only occur if msvcr90.dll & msvcp90.dll are in some other non-default location...
