  • Relative Paths in Playlists No Longer Working

So, I installed the newest WinAmp version. Now, none my playlists will load or play automatically by double clicking the .m3u playlist files. All the paths in the playlists that I have used for years have relative paths to the folder they are located in (the way I like it.) So, out of curiosity, I decided to manually load up some music files in a folder into the new Winamp version and save that playlist. Then I looked and noticed it is no longer saving them using relative paths, but using the Absolute paths.

So, if the change wasn't made in the new version, why isn't my new WinAmp not recognizing and saving using relative paths?

I originally installed the new version on top of the prior version using the installer (like I have always done when installing a new version.) And when I noticed it wasn't working properly, I decided to completely uninstall it and do a clean install. Still the same result.

If the change was indeed intentional, please bring back the ability to load/play/save playlists with relative paths.

Okay after playing around some more, I figured out the problem. After installing the newer version, somehow my "Run As Administrator" box reverted back to being unchecked. Never did that before when I installed a new version. Also, I had to make sure redo the file properties for .m3u file type to make sure they were associated with Winamp as the default application to open (even though they were in the first place.) Never had to do that after an upgrade to a new version either. Anyway, I solved the problem. Somehow after upgrading to the new version, it affected my default settings for moth Administrator and default application associated with .m3u playlist files.

i had to re-associate mp3 with winamp today actually, not sure when that changed, but i am gonna blame a windows update for that, although that is purely a guess.

however, i don't run winamp as an admin. to be clear, i think my windows user profile is or has admin rights, but i don't run or install winamp as admin.

are you saying you do, and do so routinely, and in fact need to do so to get playlists to work?

Also having an issue with .m3u playlists after installing 5.9.1 final over RC2.
If I double click on them, winamp will open but displays the last played track and will not play the playlist.
If I right click the playlist and choose "open with" Winamp, it will play the playlist fine.

Something screwy with the file association.
