  • m3u that memorizes tracks' played status

I'd like a m3u playlist to remember which of it's tracks have already played, so it won't repeat songs that were already heard next time playlist is loaded. For example: when listening to playlist A on shuffle, then switching to playlist B, then back to playlist A. It would be great if saving the playlist on exit also saved the played status of each track.

I was until recently using MuzicMan, an mp3 player which automatically saved the played status of each track within the playlist. It is the feature I most miss in Winamp. Perhaps there are plug-ins who do this, but I have not found one yet.

    Thank you for your time.

winamp only does this in the DB unfortunately. it would be so much better if winamp would save this to tags, and take it into account, but i doubt they'll do it anytime soon.

Do you mean that Winamp saves the overall play count of a track in the DB? Or the played sequence/history of the playlist itself? I can't even locate the entire database view in Winamp.

Actually, MuzicMan handled this feature by creating a second playlist document [of .mml extension]. To each playlist then corresponded 2 files: .m3u and .mml. In playlist editor view, an icon was added next to songs who had already played. Clicking on the icon made it disappear, allowing the song to play again before all playlist tracks had played.

I turned to Winamp because MuzicMan has major issues with Windows 7 [which won't ever get fixed since the software developers called it quits]. This playlist feature is major for me: I may need to substitute Winamp with another player then...

      Thanks for replying.

if you do a default full install of winamp with the bento skin, you will have a "Media Library" tab and the nav tree will have a "Audio" choice. once in that, you can add columns to the tracks pane that shows playcount and last played, but they only exist in the winamp DB, not the files tags.

you can make smartviews to act like playlists, in the nav tree.
