  • Winamp for Linux

Winamp for Linux (opensuse, gnome) is on top of my wishlist.
I tried the Linux Alternatives, but it's not the same.
I don't care for "Album covers", "songtexts", or any other "info from the Web" - if I need that, I have a webbrowser
I just want to find music (on another partition than the operating system, of course!, without having to "import" all files every single time), sort and select the songs to play quickly, easily edit the tags (title, artist, genre, etc.) if necessary and create and play playlists.
Of all the music players I tried, winamp did the job best.

Any chance there will be a winamp-solution for linux?

Not much. Even Winamp for Windows has not had a new release since 2013.

      Ok, that's a pity.
Finally found a player that works on my system.
(Clementine, not an advertisment, I'm just grateful.)
The big and recommended linux-players didn't work.
Still miss winamp's sorting options but
at least I can find the songs and manages different playlists.

It is now 2018 and a 5.58 has been released.

I hope to see a Linux version soon.. I am using Version 5.58 in wine and it works great but it sometimes gets slow on visualizations when I open another program... Adding DXVK seems to help a littlebit.

          5.8, not 5.58

BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks

          Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing

Unfortunately that would be hard without a MAJOR rewrite as Winamp, modern skin engine and browser (for shoutcast, etc.) rely on Windows internals too much. Not sure about Milkdrop, but I know for a fact that AVS uses DirectX so it's extra hard there.

When did you last use Linux? XMMS has been long discontinued.

                    YES!
I'm running Win7 as I simply refuse to move to 10, but I have a laptop, and I'm going to move it to Linux soon. I would absolutely love for Winamp to be available for Linux.
