  • Mass tag editor

I think a very useful feature would be some sort of mass editor for the tags on the MP3s. This may have already been brought up, but I'll vocalize it in my own words.

Say you have a whole bunch of MP3s of "Béla Fleck And The Flecktones". However, the field for artist varies in your files from:
"bela fleck and the flecktones" to
"Béla Fleck & The Flecktones" to just
    "Béla Fleck"

It would be great to have a feature where I could just highlight all the files I want to "normalize" (i invented that phrase ), type in the information for a single or several fields, and have Winamp write those fields to all the MP3s' tags. This feature could be implemented in several places: the Media Library, the Playlist Editor, and/or in Windows Explorer with the right-click menu. This way, you could select from Explorer all the files you want to put into a particular genre and do so in one felt swoop. Or you could "normalize" the comment on a bootleg of your choice. The applications are endless...

Another feature that would be useful would be file name extraction. For this, the user could set up how a typical MP3's file name is formatted. For example, someone may have his MP3s formatted as:
    [ARTIST] - [ALBUM] - [TRACK #] - [TITLE].mp3
So then, Winamp could extract the information for the tag from the file name. Or, contrarily, the file name could be extracted from the tag information.

I would love to at least see a component that does the same thing as Tag&Rename for wa3.

That's a great idea. But it's already been implemented in tons of other little freeware programs (such as Taggin' MP3).

I'm considering writing a component to do this for a future version of Winamp3. Wa3's tagging system is being rewritten for the next version, so I'm not going to do it till that's released (plus I don't have enough time).

Oh, and sorry to say that "normalize" is in fact a word . Quite the appropriate one for this situation though.

Well, at least it can't be too hard for the guys of Nullsoft to implement it as well then!
          UpperKEES, that's the case!
