Profile = all user configurable parameters (e.g. random, continuous, volume...). Also the profile should include information about which tracks were already played, which is the current track, and what is the current playing position.
When a playlist is closed, its profile is saved. When a playlist is opened, the profile is read and the playlist continues with the same track and from the same position at which it was closed.
Purpose:
- in long playlists, to avoid repetition of some tracks at the expense of others.
- it enables use of Winamp with digitized audio talks (often 15 minutes and longer)
