I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to make a skin that you have downloaded be your default skin so that way every time you open winamp it doesn't go back to the original classic skin? Any thoughts for me out there?

Welcome to the forums, SuzieQ
You've started a new thread in the "soon-to-be-archived-for-legacy-support-only" Winamp3 Tech Support forum. You do not have Winamp (even though you said above "every time you open winamp"). You have Winamp3. A completely separate product. More specifically, you have Winamp3 v.10. The latest Winamp version is Winamp v5.0.
To avoid confusion, Winamp and Winamp3 are and always have been two different Nullsoft media players / products)...
Winamp = Winamp 0.x | Winamp 1.x | Winamp 2.x | Winamp 5.x
Winamp3 = Winamp3
Now to answer your question...
If you decide that you want to continue to use the soon-to-be unsupported Winamp3 application, then upon every proper shutdown of Winamp3, it will save your last skin setting. Upon reopening Winamp3, it will start with that skin, effectively making that skin the current default. If this is NOT happening with you then first close Winamp3. Browse to you Winamp3 main folder on your hard drive, using either Windows Explorer or My Computer. Locate a file named studio.xnf and right-click on that file and select Properties. If the file is set to read-only, UNcheck that setting. Winamp3 needs to be able to write to that file (upon proper shutdown) in order to save your preferences (including the skin of your choice).

BUT... there is a Sticky thread at the very top of this forum that is entitled Winamp3 Is Dead, Upgrade To Winamp 5. I think it's very likely that you had never read it, based on the fact that you've posted here for help with Winamp3.
I'm obligated to inform you that Winamp3 is now effectively dead (although Wasabi development "should" continue - maybe not though) and Winamp3 will be removed from Winamp.com very soon. All Winamp3 forums (including this one) will be locked and archived for read-only purposes (legacy support). We will no longer actively support Winamp3.
So I highly recommend that you uninstall Winamp3 and then go ahead and download Winamp 5.0. When you download Winamp 5.0, go ahead and download a current release candidate of Winamp 5.0 (until the final public release comes out, at which time you can upgrade). A current release candidate of Winamp 5.0 is linked to in this discussion thread.
If you prefer, you can instead install a somewhat later release candidate of Winamp 5.0 than the one I linked to above. A later release candidate was "leaked" to the public and can be downloaded via the link in the first post in this thread > Winamp 5.0rc10

*Note: If you are a Winamp3 "die-hard" and decide to keep Winamp3 installed and you also want to install Winamp 5.0, make certain that you do not install Winamp 5.0 within your current Winamp3 directory. Winamp 5.0 is a direct upgrade from Winamp 2.xx and is a separate program requiring installation within its own folder (or within your existing Winamp 2.xx folder if you just want to upgrade).

/edit (Dec 11, 2003)
The LATEST release candidate of Winamp 5.0 is now available. This will "probably" be the last one offered for download in the forums until Winamp Final is officially publicly released.
Get it here > Winamp 5.0rc666 hereDon't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.
